The Crown Inn Shorwell

A traditional country pub that makes a great pit stop on hikes both summer and winter.

The Crown Inn Shorwell is a traditional country pub located in the picturesque village of Shorwell. The pub is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike, and offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, delicious food, and a beautiful garden.

Me and the Wife hiked out to the Crown Inn from Newport in the Summer of 2023 and thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

The PubSection titled The%20Pub

The pub is located in the heart of the village, and is built next to a chalk stream that runs through the village. The building itself is a beautiful example of a traditional English country pub, with low beamed ceilings, uneven stone floors and a large open fireplace.

The GardenSection titled The%20Garden

The Garden in the summer is a great place to sit and enjoy dinner with a small but well-equipped play area for the kids. The main attraction is the chalk stream that runs through the garden.

Feeding The FishSection titled Feeding%20The%20Fish

Fish food is available from the bar and the kids will love feeding the fish, which you can watch from seating in the garden.

The FoodSection titled The%20Food

We enjoyed a delicious meal at the Crown Inn, with a menu that offers a range of traditional pub classics.

MainsSection titled Mains

The buttermilk chicken burger we recieved at The Crown Inn

My wife had a Buttermilk Chicken burger with chunky chips and coleslaw.

The steak and ale pie we recieved at The Crown Inn

I opted for the Steak and Ale pie which was possibly one of the best pies I've come across at a pub. It was absolutely rammed with filling and was quite intimidating when it arrived at the table.

We both agreed that I won the day with my choice.

PuddingSection titled Pudding

For pudding we had the bao buns

For pudding, we opted to share a Cinamon Bao Bun with Ice Cream. It was a unique take on pudding and something we didn't expect to see on the menu in what was a very traditional pub.

The AtmosphereSection titled The%20Atmosphere

We visited on a Saturday afternoon following a long walk from Newport and the pub was heaving with passing cyclists taking part in a cross-island cycle challenge event.

They were all in good spirits and the atmosphere was great.

We chose a spot in the garden next to the stream and enjoyed the sunshine and the sound of the water.

We look forward to returning in the Winter to enjoy the open fire and the cosy atmosphere.

ConclusionSection titled Conclusion

The Crown Inn Shorwell is a great place to visit if you're looking for a traditional country pub with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, delicious food, and a beautiful garden.
