Isle of Wight in November: Weather, Fireworks, What's Open

November is one of the quietest and cheapest months to visit the Isle of Wight. Expect mild, often wet and windy weather (a monthly average of a little over 9°C at Shanklin), empty beaches and coast paths, and a shorter list of open attractions: Osborne from Wednesday to Sunday, Tapnell Farm Park and Wildheart Animal Sanctuary every day, and indoor options such as Dinosaur Isle and indoor crazy golf. The big night out is Fireworks with Mountbatten at Robin Hill on Saturday 7 November 2026.

November weatherSection titled November weather

The island is one of the mildest corners of England, but November is properly autumn: short days, gales and regular rain.

Daylightabout 9 hours at the start of the month, 8 by the end

Westerly gales can stop the Needles chairlift and delay or cancel the fast foot-passenger ferries, so check the forecast and your ferry company's service updates before you travel. For how the island compares with the mainland, see is it warmer on the Isle of Wight?

Southern Vectis route 8 stops at Robin Hill, and an event bus runs from South Street in Newport for £3 return. Book ahead, because parking is limited.

Smaller village and club displays are listed each autumn on Visit Isle of Wight's bonfires and fireworks page. Several of those listings still show last year's dates, so confirm with each organiser before you set off.

What's open in NovemberSection titled What's open in November

Most of the big outdoor attractions close for the winter at the end of October half term. Here's what stays open.

  • Osborne: closed 2 to 6 November 2026, then open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm from 7 November. Only the ground floor of the house and the grounds are open in winter.
  • Tapnell Farm Park: open every day, 10am to 4pm from 2 November. The Aqua Park is closed until May 2027.
  • Wildheart Animal Sanctuary, Sandown: open every day, 10am to 4pm (last admission 3pm) through the winter.
  • Dinosaur Isle, Sandown: the museum reopened in March 2026 after its refurbishment and opens Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm.
  • Indoor crazy golf: Caddyshack in Shanklin is open all year, and Lost World on Sandown Pier is indoors. See our guide to every crazy golf course on the island.

Closed for the winter: Blackgang Chine (it runs from spring to October half term), the Tapnell Aqua Park, and Dino Islands crazy golf in Sandown after 1 November. Robin Hill's November event is the fireworks night; its Illuminate light trail starts on 4 December. For the full list, see our guide to what's open on the Isle of Wight in winter.

Walking and beachesSection titled Walking and beaches

November is a good month to walk the coast. The paths are empty, the light is low and golden on clear days, and most summer beach dog bans have ended by October, so dog owners can use the main resort beaches again.

  • Fossil hunting is at its best after winter storms bring down fresh material. Compton Bay and Yaverland are the classic beaches; see our guide to the best beaches for fossils.
  • Rock pooling at Bembridge Ledges is still possible on low spring tides if you wrap up warm. Our rock pooling guide has the details.
  • For somewhere warm afterwards, a village pub with a fire is the island in winter at its best. The Crown Inn at Shorwell is a good example.

Christmas starts in NovemberSection titled Christmas starts in November

Christmas shopping events start appearing from mid-November. The Garlic Farm at Newchurch has run its I Love Wight artisan Christmas pop-up shop from early November in recent years, and town councils hold Christmas lights and late-night shopping days. Most 2026 dates had not been published when we checked in October; see our Isle of Wight in December guide for the confirmed ones.
