Isle of Wight in Winter: What's Open (2026 to 2027)

Plenty of the Isle of Wight stays open in winter, but not the big seasonal theme parks. From November to March you can rely on Osborne (on set days), Tapnell Farm Park and Wildheart Animal Sanctuary (daily), Amazon World, Dinosaur Isle (Tuesday to Saturday), indoor crazy golf in Shanklin and Sandown, and Illuminate at Robin Hill through December. Blackgang Chine and most outdoor seasonal attractions close after October half term and reopen in spring. The beaches, the coast path and the pubs never close.

The best winter days outSection titled The best winter days out

A coast walk and a pub lunch. Winter is when the island's coastal path is at its emptiest. Walk the cliffs from Freshwater Bay or along the shore at Colwell, then warm up in a village pub. The Crown Inn at Shorwell has fires and a trout stream.

Fossil hunting. Winter storms bring down fresh material on the south-west coast, which is why collectors head out in the colder months. Start with our guide to the best beaches for fossils, then see the real thing at Dinosaur Isle.

A rainy-day loop around Sandown and Shanklin. Dinosaur Isle, the indoor golf on Sandown Pier and Caddyshack in Shanklin are all a short hop apart, and the Island Line train links Sandown and Shanklin.

Osborne on a crisp weekend. In winter you see the ground floor state rooms and walk the grounds without the summer crowds.

Dog walks on the main beaches. The seasonal dog bans on the resort beaches run from 1 May to 30 September, so in winter dogs can use most beaches again. See our beaches guide for the rules on each one.
